The Theory of Change

A theory of change (ToC) explains how a set of interventions can to lead to development change, using current evident to understand causes, and framing the intended outcomes of an intervention and developing the pathways of activities to such interventions.  These pathways must include consultation with key stakeholders to identify solutions in the local context to effectively address the causes of problems and guide decisions on interventions. A ToC is well suited in the context of climate change where adaptation interventions are local. The ToC recognises that interventions are highly dependent on other changes in social, political, and natural environments. Thus a flexible and adaptable approach that can be updated if the intervention is not effecting the desired change is necessary.

For our project, we are in the process of setting up structures at all levels – while WP0 is responsible for the active participation of the Advisory Board, WP1 will set up or engage with existing Community of Practice networks.  Within these two structures discussions and debates on the impacts of heat and interventions to address these will be discussed.  Across all the sites, there are longstanding collaboration between stakeholders, and these will be strengthened. WP4 will engage in focus group discussions with parents, caregivers and educators.

The collaborators will propose potential interventions to be tested through this ToC process. The ToC Framework is reflected in adjacent figure.

In each field site, a ToC Champion (Community Engagement Officer) will be identified from the participating communities to ensure ongoing engagement.
