Work Package 4
This WP will develop a multi-pronged qualitative approach to triangulate and enrich quantitative data with qualitative insights from children, parents/caregivers, and stakeholders/ policy makers.
The WP will report on children’s experiences with heat and contextual factors influencing heat exposure and heat discomfort. Draw-and-tell and photovoice/visual ethnography will be used to empower children to capture images of thermal discomfort, symptoms and practices for managing heat. Images will be analysed to gain visual representations of children’s perspectives, identify environmental factors contributing to respiratory health challenges, and generate culturally and contextually relevant data for intervention development.
Focus groups with parents/ caregivers will discuss their knowledge, concerns, and strategies related to children’s respiratory health and heat stress.
Through these interactions, intervention recommendations based on parent and caregiver knowledge, concerns and strategies related to children’s respiratory health and heat stress will be identified.
Maps of vulnerable microenvironments, identification of high-risk areas, and proposed solutions for mitigating heat impacts on children’s health will be generated
The WP will prepare a proposal for a macro-level policy intervention framework that will contribute to the work of WP5
