Work Package 5
This WP will engage with the Communities of Practice networks through workshops and other consultation to co-create appropriate interventions in different sites. The WP will develop low-cost interventions selected from three broad categories: environmental (e.g. ceiling insulation, roof cooling paints, shaded zones, fans, water supplies and evaporative cooling techniques), educational (programmes targeting children, parents, educators, etc) and administrative (e.g. designated outdoor time, rest schedules, etc) will be further developed in the second year of the project. Choice of interventions will arise from stakeholder engagements in the early phases of the project.
On-site “intervention workshops” will also be held during the intervention phase, engaging the local stakeholders and researchers
The WP will determine feasibility of proposed interventions, and submit proposals to the Advisory Board
The WP will also engage with policy lead collaborators for setting up policy workshops. Piloted interventions will contribute to policy strategies at local government level. The ability of interventions to attenuate heat exposure in the selected environments will be evaluated.
The WP will develop proposals for policy consideration with CoPs. Through participation of senior local government technical members on the research team in each of the research centres, policy workshops with policy makers and public representatives will be held. Based on the experiences of the pilot interventions, the inputs of the various stakeholders and working through the pathway outlined in the ToC Framework, appropriate policy strategies will be determined and drafted with the necessary local government partners.
