Programme Approach
To achieve it’s objectives the Project will adopt the following approach:
- School based child cohorts will be selected in Durban (South Africa), Harare (Zimbabwe) and Haramaya (Ethiopia)
- Community of Practice networks will be either newly establish or engagements with existing networks will be undertaken at each site
- To understand heat exposure, microenvironment heat exposure metrics will be constructed for the participants in the epidemiological arm of the project
- Respiratory and physiological health assessments will be conducted among all the children in the cohort (n=3×300)
- Strategies to gain insights into the lived experiences, diverse perspectives, and subjective interpretations of children and their caregivers will be developed
- Culturally and contextually appropriate, cost-effective, scalable interventions for child-focused environments, such as the home, school and recreational facilities will be co-created with the different stakeholders across the three sites
- The epidemiological findings and intervention evaluations will be translated into policy through engagement with appropriate stakeholders.
The above will be implemented through a series of Work Packages.
